My experience in this class helped me understand how much of an impact I can have on my community. I was helping one of the club members who did not understand his math problems, so I took the initiative to help him comprehend the topics. After twenty minutes of teaching him, he understood the topics and was finished with his homework. The fact how I took the initiative to help one of the club members is a good experience to know how much of an impact I had on him. Though it was the first day I had met him, I know I have made a positive impact by the way I took the time out to help him with his school work.

I really enjoyed my experience at the Boys and Girls Club. Getting to interact with the children and help them out with their homework was my favorite part. I really liked that besides just helping them with stuff like math and reading I got to talk to them and get a feel for their personalities and let me tell you one child is very different from the next. One girl likes to sing another pulled out her violin and started playing, it was just really cool to see the diversity of likes and talents. Another thing I found interesting as of how early the children start thinking about their future. When I was as young as 9 and 10 I had no idea, I didn't even think about college! One girl I was helping was in middle school and she asked me what it was like to be in college and about my college experience. She told me that when she is older she wants to go to FSU too. It was just cool to hear how the children have high aspirations to continue their learning and want to go to college. Even though I got to work with the children for only a few hours I felt like I was a tiny part of their life and made an impact although small, but still. I enjoyed helping them.

My experience with the Boys and Girls Club was a memorable one. As I helped different kids with their homework each day, I was able to learn about each of them individually. For example, on my first day at the club, a little girl asked me to help her with her math homework. As I began reading the question, she inturrupted me with "what's the answer?." I asked her for her opinion and she told me she didnt know because she was "dumb" at math. I told her she seemed very smart to me and she said the only thing she is good at is cheerleading. I then asked her if she has to count off in cheerleading (5,6,7,8!) and she said "duhhh!." I told her that if she can count that fast in cheerleading, then she has to be great at math. She smiled and tried the problem again. With little help, she got the problem right and the next few after that. She finished her homework and said "thanks! you're super cool. I gotta go to cheer now!" and she ran off. I love this story because it shows how my encouragement helped a girl with her math homework and realize she can do anything sh eputs her mind too. This class has helped me realize how big of an impact the Boys and Girls Club has in any given area. Through my writing, I was able to reflect on my positive volunteer experience and will bring it with me everywhere I go in life. This class was'nt just an ordinary English class. It challenged me to be a better person by helping others.

Volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club was an interesting experience for me. For me, the best part of volunteering was getting to interact with the kids that I was tutoring. For the most part I tutored and talked with the same three or fours kids on both of my trips to the Boys and Girls Club. Some may argue this is the wrong way to go about it and that you should try to help the most kids you can but that is not the case for me. In my experience getting to know the three or four kids that I spent the most time with was the best part of the time I spent volunteering. For example I talked with one of the members about his favorite comics because he was really into comic books. Another member I talked to was part of the band that the Boys and Girls Club had so I got to talk to him about his experience playing instruments and it turns out he was pretty talented because he could play three different instruments. It is these conversations that were the highlight of my experience volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club.
